Carol Speaks Out on the Financial Crisis
NOTE TO THE WHITE HOUSE AND CONGRESS:
GET YOUR GREEDY HANDS OUT OF OUR POCKETS
IT’S TIME FOR TRICKLE-UP ECONOMICS
The current economic crisis shows why it is time to elect Independent Carol Miller to represent the third Congressional District of New Mexico. Both parties have placed big money over the people of New Mexico for too long. It will take an Independent, well-educated and experienced grassroots leader to stand up for the people of northern New Mexico.
The White House and Congress are rushing right now before the election to prop up stock brokerages, banks, insurance companies - and now the automakers - before they adjourn for the year. They are scheduled to adjourn on Friday – three days from now. No good legislation has ever been passed in a rush without time to hold hearings, hear from constituents, or even carefully read the bill in its quickly changing versions.
This economic crisis is a result of decades of failed economic policies of both parties and will take thoughtful planning to guarantee that since the taxpayer is paying the bill, the taxpayer will also get benefits from the bailout. At the root of this problem is the rotten campaign finance system that funds US elections. There is a reason why commercial banks have recently given more than $203 million to candidates of both parties and now they are calling in their IOU’s.
“Where are the bailouts and help for homeowners and families that go bankrupt every day?” “I have testified in Congress about the 500,000 families that go bankrupt every year because of an illness or medical bills. Despite my pleading, these human tragedies fell on deaf ears,” stated Carol Miller.
If there is money to bail out the richest corporations and wealthiest people in the country, we must include items that will benefit all Americans. Universal access to healthcare must be a part of any bailout package considered by Congress. Financing college education should be a government responsibility and taken back from the private banks that rip-off students and families with high interest loans, making higher education unaffordable and sending our graduates into the workforce with huge debts. There must be a moratorium on foreclosures and evictions and a national affordable housing plan developed and funded. And there must be an increase in the minimum wage to a living wage that will keep fulltime workers out of poverty with a chance to get ahead.
“It is so sad to see the sky’s-the-limit, maximum wage elites being subsidized by low and middle income families struggling to support themselves, their families and communities.” “New Mexico is already feeling the impacts of the economic crisis,” said Miller “and the question for voters now is who has the education, the integrity and the experience in Washington to stand up for them – and the obvious answer is Carol Miller.”
